Here's how to rent

It's easy getting a Standup Paddleboard or kayak, next to the hike and bike trail and right on the lake.  Find our friendly staff downstairs in the city's new Waller Creek Boathouse in Downtown Austin, at  74 Trinity Street, Austin 78701.  No reservation required.  Let's start off with a popular question that we answer in our video below:

The Video - How to get in a kayak

Never paddled before? We will show you how and help you launch from our docks.  Also, restrooms are located upstairs next to popular Alta's Cafe on the patio deck.

What to bring?  a renter's valid drivers license is needed for each boat rented, cash or credit card to rent,  and a water bottle. Valuables are best left at home or locked in vehicle trunks.  We have life vests and pint-sized paddles for kiddos if you think they would like to paddle with you in a kayak. We have open cubbies, no lockers, for towels and sandal storage.  We also can store small items such as keys at our desk. Sunscreen, sunglasses and our sports bottles full of iced water can be purchased here. For morning paddlers, you might want to bring a jacket.

Old enough? There is no minimum age for youngsters in kayaks if accompanied by an adult. SUP paddlers 13 years and above may paddle, one board per person, when accompanied by an adult. Unaccompanied, minimum age is 16 for kayaks and SUPs.  For guest safety, we apply these practices.

Families?  Our largest kayak allows three adults or adults and a toddler to ride.  Our SUPs allow one guest to ride.

Are we open year-round?  Yes!  Weather conditions may affect our hours or high winds may delay boating for your safety, so please check our "News" box on the home page or call our desk at 512-809-8916 for details.

Safety Tips on the Lake

Paddlers know the traffic pattern is "River Right".  Paddle along the right-hand shore.

Small boats (kayaks, SUPs) yield to the larger, faster boats (paddlewheeler, rowing shells).

We advise you if storms are in the area.  If necessary, seek shelter at the nearest dock or well under a bridge.

Paddlers are advised to wear their life vest and guests under 13 must wear the vest per Texas law.

No alcohol consumption is allowed in our boats.

No swimming per city rule - be aware that park rangers have cited for illegal swimming in the lake.

Pack it in, pack it out.  Let's Keep Austin Beautiful!
